#Immunity4Growth : Strong from Both Inside & Outside.

On 8th of May 2016, there was a meet to discuss on #Immunity Factor & its necessity for growth. The meet at Vivanta by Taj was organised by Horlicks & GSK in association with IndiBlogger.
I, being a Father of a young one, was determined to attend this meet without a miss. I had to cancel one of the planned activity for this meet, and yes I can say it was much more worth to attend the #Immunity4Growth Meet.

I started for the event at 3 pm to make sure I reach the event at Vivanta by Taj, Bangalore on time.
The event started with the Registration and greeting at the check in counter. Check-in was done using QR code, which was very swift and good use of technology.

The meeting started with introduction of Jill Castle, America's Childhood Nutrition Expert, by Anoop. She is a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and childhood nutrition expert with over 25+ years in the field of paediatric nutrition. It was a very informative & eye opener session. The session by Jill was followed by a panel discussion.

In short, Its a 3-phase of fight to get  #Immunity4Growth.

1. Acknowledge the Problem :- First thing for us is to acknowledge the problem of Nutritional deficiency among our children. Statistically its said that 30% of the kids in the developing countries are with Micro Nutrients deficiency. Well stats are stats, lets worry about the world & others later. Lets check the Nutritional  value of our own kids. One can do that at http://nutrimeter.horlicks.in/.

2. Understand the Problem :- Hidden hunger is one such problem in which there is a nutritional deficiency inside but from outside kids look nutritionally sufficient. For children to grow well outside, they need to be strong inside.

3. Fight back the problem of nutritional deficiency:- A planned & complete diet is the main solution. To make sure that the kids have a proper diet parents, teachers & school staff needs to be educated and make them part of the war against the nutritional deficiency. There are only few food products which can be regarded as wholesome. So make sure that you have wholesome nutritional diet.

  • Milk & Egg have all kinds of nutrients. So its a must to add them as part of daily diet to make it wholesome.
  • Follow 5210 formula:
    • 5 : Increase in Fruits & Vegetables as part of diet.
    • 1 : Few hours of Activity to keep kids fit
    • 0 : Avoid Artificial Beverage
I took a pledge on Mother's day as a Father, thanks to Horlicks, that I will be part of this fight against Hidden Hunger for my kid. Lets build our future - strong from Both Inside & Outside.

After the panel, there was a good nutritional dinner :-) along with networking with fellow bloggers.

Health is not wealth, Its more precious

There is a very common and true saying that "Health is Wealth". A good health helps us to live a "GOOD , BALANCED AND HEALTHY LIFE". If our Health is good, we can bear any bad circumstances in our life. But if we suffer from any health related issues we will be deprived of every little enjoyments of life.
In order to maintain a good health we need to eat balanced food along with daily mild exercises, fresh air, clean water, enough sleep and rest.
Healthy food at right time is very necessary for the healthy mind and body which is possible only through the "Well Balanced Healthy Diet" which promotes the proper growth and development of our body and keeps us Mentally, Socially and Physically Fit"

But in this Fast running life we do not have enough time for ourselves. We are in hurry to finish off everything with less time in our hand. The advancement in Science and Technology has improved our health on one hand but has also affected it adversely on the other hand. People are living lives prone to high levels of stress, depression , anxiety which affects human health including their background, lifestyle, economic and social conditions. Not only this due to bad and unhealthy lifestyle more and more people are finding themselves in the clutch of deadly diseases like obesity , diabetes , heart attack , cancer arthritis, thyroid..and many more.
So , we all need to make a promise to ourselves to Follow a "Healthy Diet Plan" which furnishes all of the nutrients in proper proportions for healthy growth and Sound Body and mind.

How can I forget that day when Papa fall down while walking down stairs. We felt decrease in his sensation and numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. We ran to doctor. After thorough Check-up he told me that My Father is diagnosed with borderline diabetes or in other words it refers to "Pre-diabetes".
This is when your blood glucose levels are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be diagnosed with type II diabetes. Pre-diabetics are more likely to develop type II diabetes.Your father is Overweight which is another reason of Pre-diabetes. In order to bring diabetes under control, your father has to follow Diabetes Prevention Program in which:

1)He has to control weight
2)Exercise for 30 minutes a day, such as cycling, swimming, or brisk walking.
3)Strictly follow "A HEALTHY BALANCED DIET"

From then, we started taking a good care of him. My mother sincerely sticks to "Diabetic Food Plan" so that he does not have to compromise on food and gets
all type of required Nutrition. He too made up his Health routine and strictly follow them. But one thing which we find difficult on his part is to give up
Sweets because he has a strong inclination towards Sweets. He would sometimes quietly take them from fridge when Mom is out or when she is Sleeping.
One day, I caught him Red-Handed.He promised me he will not repeat but he cant stop his Cravings.I really feel sad for him.

I put this problem in front of My Best friend whose father too is a Diabetic patient hopingshe will understand me better. She gave me The Best and Healthy idea to replace sugar with "DABUR HONEY PLAN" Honey is a healthier substitute to sugar because it contains vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which are good for health.
She suggested me some of "Honey Recipes" like Gajar Ka Halwa ,Honey Fruit Yoghurt etc. which really tastes "Awesome"

Thanks to her and "Honey Diet" which has solved my difficulties easily. Now, no more compromises on sweets. "Ab Papa Bhi Khush Aur Tummy Bhi Khush".
Now,no more hiding of sweets. I can feel happiness in my father's face which keeps me elated. He remains more active and energised than before.
His Friends say day by day you are becoming more handsome and Young. What is the reason? He smiles and "Stay Fit and Feel Young" with Dabur Honey.

Lion, Squirrel & the Gum Problem

There was an animal kingdom similar to what we all have been reading in stories from our childhood.

And obviously there has to be king in a kingdom named "Brian". He was very strong, mighty and good at killing. He used to hear everyone, but never listened to anyone except his wife "Rachel". She was especially proud of her husband and used to boast too much about his strength.

One day she announced a competition in the whole kingdom that his husband - The King - "Brian" is the strongest of all and if anyone beats him in any aspect, he will become one of the nobles of the kingdom. Only a few were part of the elite group of nobles - A Turtle, A Cheetah and A Monkey.

It started with a race and the Lion was winner.

And there were many other competition, none could beat the lion. Now it was about to be dusk, then suddenly a small squirrel was just passing by. Who came to lioness notice.
Squirrel being completely ignorant of the competition was not well received by lioness. Lioness asked squirrel why don't you hail your king. All Hail the King. He is the mightiest of all. Squirrel didn't seem to agree. Lioness asked the squirrel, "Why you are hoarding these nuts". Squirrel responded, "These are one of the most precious things for me, hard enough that even the mightiest will have tough time breaking it."

Lioness tells, "My husband is the mightiest of all, and its an easy one for him. What a small squirrel could do may not be worth attention of his. Anyways since you are the last one coming near the den, I won't deny the opportunity to kingdom, to see the might of their one & only King".

Brian the king was just standing beside and tries to break one of the nuts. But he fails, he tried multiple times, he fails. To his shock. Then squirrel says, "Your highness, you both have been kind. But your teeth are not stronger than mine. This is not a good sign . I want you both to stay and king & queen for long. For now you can break this nut from hammer and start brushing your teeth regularly from Colgate to all this gum problem. To read more about refer My Healthy Speak Blog"

King just ignored this warning signs and killed squirrel thinking if the word flew about his teeth getting weaker  his subjects will laugh at him. Instead of taking this warning sign seriously, he just rubbed it off.

Days passed by and his teeth started deterioration.
And soon he was challenged for his kingdom, which he lost to another lion with stronger claws & teeth.
He lost all - pride, kingdom, subjects and even the queen. He was caged and was part of Zoo - alone in an enclosure with people having fun on his lost pride.

Moral of the story :- NEITHER IGNORE NOR DENY WARNING SIGNS. TAKE STEPS TO CORRECT IT & FACE THE CHALLENGE BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

Modern Healthcare needs a touch of humanity

I just came to read this title "Modern Healthcare Touching Lives !!!". I was wondering is it the "so-called" Modernisation which is the problem or solution. Like everything having good-&-bad, modernisation also has the same attributes. Definitely, Healthcare is more on the positive & solution-side. I don't want to talk more on the problem side of Modernisation, but will prefer to talk on "Modern Healthcare Touching Lives".

I have been doing rounds of many hospitals for quite sometime. But I believe even if Healthcare became Modern enough and capable to solve all the possible ailments, its not enough. It will just give depth to it and Healthcare-community can boost about it. But what the society need is not just depth but

  • Make Life Easy - use innovative ways :- When a person falls ill, its not that the person is sick. Its tied with lives of many other persons around including person's family. As a part of society, we need to use modern techniques to make life easier for him. One such example is, patients having Dialysis its a  regular day-to-day affair for the patient & family, additional services from Hospitals/Dialysis centers like pick-and-drop can really ease the life of these patients. Nephrolife is one such hospital, I am aware off, which offers this service.
  • Increase Breadth of Healthcare - Reach Masses :- I don't have statistics for this, even if I get some statistics from internet regarding the households which doesn't have any Medical health care facility within 10 km, it will be with Std. Error. But one which all will agree it still doesn't cover at least 30% of human masses. I know of many ways like online health care guidance, temporary mobile kiosks in rural villages, Mobile healthcare vans, etc being tried. I salute them for running these initiatives. Still will it cover all human masses. We need much more effort here.
  • Affordability :- For many of the poors, health care is not affordable and there is no denying fact. Many hospitals and healthcare community personnel are trying to make it affordable in their own ways. E.g. Devi Shetty's Narayana Hrudayalaya for heart surgeries, Arvind Eye Hospitals for eyes and many others. We need to do more.
  • Insured / Not insured ?? :- Most of the people are not insured for the healthcare in India. So once someone is sick in the family, its not just pain which the family has to bear but also tension w.r.t. economical condition & affordability. But is getting insured a solution ? What about the folks who are insured but with a limit ? I have noticed most of the time the insured folks are charged more by hospitals as compared to non-insured people. I understand non-insured people have to pay from their own pockets and insured people would have just paid insurance premium. But in the long term, it makes getting insurance more costly for non-insured families.
  • Intent of Health care - Religious Conversions / Huge Profit Making :- Even though I thought I will skip this topic, I am going ahead to share my personal views. Some hospitals have good quality health care, but the intent behind seems just not healthcare. Many hospitals are too costly, Many are run with intent to convert peoples - while they are getting treated either by monetary discounts or by propaganda, etc. We need to STOP maligning the intent of human health care with these hidden malicious intents of conversion/huge profit making. Health care shouldn't be differentiated for any human on any basis - Gender, Religion, Age, Country, Wealth, even criminal/innocent.
  • Quality Healthcare services :- Ok, say you have all this - You have insurance, you can afford healthcare expenses, healthcare is reachable to you, and you have all the means. But if the healthcare services are not quality even with all the means it won't help. E.g. I know of many cases, in which instead of curing wrong medicines made the case worse for the patient. For quality health care one of the such name is Apollo Hospitals
Yes Modern Healthcare is touching lives, also needs a touch of humanity not maligned with Wealth/Religion/Gender/Nationality/Anything.

This post is a part of the Apollo hospitals- Modern health care touching lives contest held at Indiblogger.

Pehel 2012 - An Initiative !!!

Pehel 2012 - An Initiative !!!

Pehel - An ongoing tradition in IIMB PGSEM - An event organised by fresh incoming batch of PGSEM students every year for seniors, and not vice-versa. We first came to know about this tradition from our seniors - Anupama, Gokul, Vijay & Prabir during PGSEM 2012 Orientation

Since all of us were nascent in IIMB and upcoming task was to organize an event for seniors, our seniors guided us really well with all logistics and planning. Their guidance helped us streamline the preparation for the event. Love you all seniors, without you we couldn't have done it so entertaining and GRAND SUCCESS (I believe so and most of viewers I believe will agree). ;-)
The event date was decided to be held on 14th July 2012.

The preparation started with formation of various committees for specific tasks. There were committees for fund collection, logistics, design, songs, dance, skit, comparing and other activities. We went ahead with T-shirt route for fund collection, as done in past. Main requirement for finalizing the event date was that it should happen only after the DML (Director's Merit List) was ready. Once DML list was ready and availability of Director & Auditorium was confirmed, we set 14th July 2012 to be the D-day for Pehel 2012. Before the D-day, many events related the organizing had taken place like T-shirt distribution, practice for various acts, teasers and invitations, etc. Don't want to bore you all with those details...Lets move to the D-Day directly.

Finally the D-day was there, most of us did final preparations for performing, of course, after the classes. Once Auditorium was available A/V and other logistics were checked, so as to make sure everything was in place. Guests started trickling in & the event started.

Event kick started @ 6 pm, with a welcome to guests. Formal event started with speech by our director Prof. Chandra's,  our chairperson Prof. Ramesh Kumar followed by Prof. Agarwal. After that, DML awardees were accoladed by the director. We had a Hi-Tea break between formal and informal events, thanks to the PGSEM office for that.

The informal event kick started by an amazing performance by Anu's kids (Aditi & Pranav) - Simply Priceless during the duet song by Chandni & Abhesh - "Laddki Kyu Najane Kyu, Ladko se nahin hoti".
Pranav & Aditi - Rockstars in Action

Dance - I never thought we could have pulled it off so well. Audience were spell bound with it. It had many tracks "Terre Bina Bhi Kya Jina", "Humara Bajaj", "Chalo Ishq Ladayee", "Kolaveri Di" & "Rum Rum Whishky". It spell-bound the audience both with comedy & simply splendid performance. Waiting for someone to share video. Video is worth more than any words.
Melodious solo singing by Chandni touched everyone's heart.

Skit - every time we rehearsed our dialogues were different. Specially just a day before, on 13th July night, we started seeing changes in dialogue for Dr. Silent Singh, Aamir Khan, Baba Ramdev, Media representative. So the Skit's troupe were on the stage with just one practice of the final dialogues. It went well, hope it succeeded in entertaining as well as in provoking some thoughts w.r.t. the issue of corruption.

Skit Intro - "Gaddhe Mein Bharat"

Skit Climax - "Gaddhe Mein Bharat"

Iqbal as Dr. Silent Singh

Audience were engaged through out the show thanks to splendid MCing by Pehel 2012 Masters-of-Ceremony - Anshuman & Swati.

Group song was a perfect ending for one of the finest evening @ IIM-B, with our friends & family in IIM-B. Followed by delicious dinner in MDC, thanks to PGSEM office.

Last Act of the Evening - Group Song

Thanks to All for Making this event a GRAND SUCCESS !!!

Khul-ja-Sim-Sim !!!

IIM-B Here We Come !!!

Orientation Day 1 :-
I woke up @ 5 am and was ready to reach the IIM-B as a student. Feeling was quite different as never before with 100 of questions jumping inside my top floor- What to expect? Who all will be my batch mates? How will be the Profs., seniors ? Will I be able to balance my personal & study life? How I need to plan my travel to-and-fro between home & IIMB campus ... My thoughts were quite turbulent until I reached the gates of THE IIM-B. Once we (Me & Mayank) were inside the gates, it was an altogether different world. Suddenly we stopped hearing all sorts of traffic noise and one could hear the nature and feel the calm environment surrounding us. We stepped out of car, confused were to go, suddenly saw a smiling face of one of our seniors, who was coming towards us. (Later came to know his name - Vijay). Vijay guided us to MDC for breakfast, which was followed up by checking in the hostel. As soon as I entered the room , I felt as if I have entered the hostel life again.

We had a few inspirational talks by the likes of Mr. Anjan Lahiri (president of I.T. services, MindTree), Mr. Rajesh Pandit and Prof. N. M. Agarwal. Also we had one of the quite different views by Mr. Mansoor Khan, Entrepreneur and Film director of Kayamat Se Kayamat Tak, Jo Jeeta Wahin Sikandar, Akele Hum Akele Tum, who shared his views w.r.t. to Oil Peak and 3rd Curve.

And yes, we had interactions with our seniors (Few of the names I remember - Anu, Prabir, Maitreya, Harsha, Gokul, Radha, Vijay, and others...sorry in case I missed you). Seems like I had abundant names to remember and I failed to recall all - Short Term Memory Loss . We were given some good gyaans and later were greeted with 3 books - Accounting, Strategic Management & Microeconomics. Lot of experiences were shared by senior PGSEMers, they also arranged for games like Dump Charades, 1 minute non-sense talk, Skit, etc. And yes, not to miss late night group assignments being given after midnight to be submitted before 8 am next morning. Which all together was a fun. And every tasks was going to be counted for the HOUSE CUP and the group name for us was "KLONAM". At midnight, while we were working on our assignments and having coffee, I got the unique chance which not many of new joinees get - chance to shot your seniors - which I myself jumped in to shot all of them at once. Below is the shot

And yes, even though the assignment was for us and it was late, they were sharing their experiences even late night, which really shows their passion to help us. (Had I been in there place probably I would have ran to sleep). This is the time I realized that if we are working on assignments late at night, they are also not sleeping early either and really have put a lot of effort for us in there busy schedule. Love you all seniors ...

Orientation Day 2 :-
Wow !!! we were awake till 3 am and then finally decided to go for sleep. And yes just to add I got a great group too - Kumar Guhan, Latish, Madhu & Madhur - "METAMINDS". All of them are really sweet, I pulled Guhan's legs that he need to wakeup early and review too, but he was really cool as always. I woke at 6 am and was ready for the Day 2. We got chance to attend "Drishtikon 2012 : CSITM Annual conference". Many papers were presented also we got some good insights from Rajesh and Prof. Sourav Mukherji. I have always noticed Prof. N. M. Agarwal to be very very humble, e.g. he will always ask others to also give momento to distinguished guests as well as ask PGSEMer 2012 to light lamps.

We also were lucky to hear famous people from different facets of life (Mr. Vir Kashyap from http://babajob.com/, Ms. Gunjan Krishna  an IAS officer) - I was literally spell bound by the amount work being done by her as well as  knowledge she had, Mr Singh from DataWind - Aakash Tablets, Mr. Anand Sudarshan from Manipal Educations). We got some enlightened by Mr. Bhavish Sood from Gartner. I really apologise not to remember all the names properly, but can't help as we (I believe most of us) were busy trying to keep remembering names of our batch mates. All new faces and names - and another problem of mapping correct name & face... He He...

Battle for House Cup started again in the evening, till now we were the top group - KLONAM. All the four houses competed in various games like Cricket, Table Tennis, Basket Ball and Badminton followed by Treasure Hunt. Doing a treasure hunt in such a big campus at night when most of us are confused with all the paths with every surroundings which look similar was definitely not a cake walk. But surprise was still awaiting us. Another set of assignment - this time a case study that too close to 20 pages of case. We all (MetaMinds) were mentally prepared to be awake whole night again. We completed the assignment and went for our rooms.

Orientation Day 3 :-
Thanks to Madhur who woke me up on time, otherwise I would have definitely missed the case study class by Prof. B. Mahadevan. To my surprise, we were greeted by our seniors with a surprise quiz followed by Case study Introduction. We had a really interesting and very interactive session with Prof. Mahadevan. Though while being in class it looked normal but when I look back now, I can really feel the difference all the learning I still remember and also the content covered in that small duration was huge. After the session was over, we were given a bonded booklet for strategic management. Seems like next 2.5 years is going to be very exciting and very very busy. And as usual we had our seniors and they as usual had some more info for us along with academic information - we need to treat them by organizing an event called "Pehel". We were ready to leave the college after lunch. We also had elections and we choose a Class Representative too.

When I look back I felt as if I have been there in campus for a month or two. I am in totally Awe after getting just a glimpse of 2.5 days, just wondering what we will be 3 years later once molded by this fine institution. And yes, I don't regret trying to get into PGSEM year after year, from 2008 till now, finally I have reached the place I wanted to be in. The doors of learning have opened for Me !!! Khul - ja - Sim - Sim !!! Its up to us how much wealth of knowledge we can carry back and apply !!!

Finally,
we had a first team movie outing.... everything was good except of the fact it was a self sponsored one. Well, one more thing is there :- The pleasure of successful completion of idea proposed me and its execution. The idea for a team outing for a movie suddenly clicked to me when I was coming back from the tea along with Riddhish. So I asked our boss, Satish, we call him "Sarkar" also. To my surprise, he agreed for it and that too on a working day. So we got the green signal.

Recently, all of us in Motorola moved to Google Apps from Outlook, which had one good feature of conducting polls. And we made a good use of it. To our surprise, out of 14 member team 12 agreed to go f
or this. This was definately more than what I expected. The factors which influnced 85% + turnout in the team were

  1. It was on a Working Day
  2. One who doesn't go for movie can't take it off and will have to work in office
  3. It was in English (As our team is a mix of people with different native tongues any other language will have resulted in more rejections for sure)
  4. Hype of Avatar and its Graphics.
  5. 3D. (Not many of us has watched a 3-D movie)
  6. Lastly, Holiday mood ..... ;)

Based on everyone's convenience as well as tickets availability, we finalized the day of Thursday(24th December). The Avatar day arrived and we started assembling and most of us reached there using bikes through route avoiding the Metro-construction route, which was the shortest one. We all reached Fame Cinemas on time and were ready to Avatarised in 3D way.

Movie Review:-
  1. Awesome Graphics
  2. Nice 3D experience
  3. Story was okie-dokie.
  4. 2nd half is better than 1st half.
  5. Movie is definitely over-hyped.
Fame Cinemas' Review:-

  1. Seats were cozy & spacious.
  2. Nice Environment.
  3. Food inside is very costly. (Which is expected in Multiplexes in cities :(
Somehow, I kept thinking about Avatar. It may be because of many reasons. May be because as I am Hindu and we have always been saved by our deities who reincarnates themselves in form of Avatars. Or may be because my first disposition for patent was Avatar Transformation System, which got rejected. :( Or was it because of the thoughts which kept coming to my mind, like what we have done to the nature of our planet. Ah Ah... somehow I felt the movie was over hyped, but deep inside there was some link with the word Avatar or some of the values projected through the movie "Avatar". Even, I thought about if the 10th Avatar of Vishnu, as predicted by Bhavisya Purana will actually come? If he comes will he be in some horse with wings or this white or it is some aircraft as most of them are white also they are regarded as war-horse.

Origin of the word "Avatar" is from Sanskrit.
  1. A manifestation of a deity in Hinduism.
  2. A new personification of a familiar idea
  3. An icon or animation to represent a participant used in Internet chat and games

Its time to close the waiting List !!!!!!!!!!!!

Its time to close the waiting List !!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, seems like now I need to take a stand on myself and start closing the never ending waiting list of the items which I keep planning every month once or twice, but never even initiates, forget the conclusion. But after the PGSEM's disappointing results I'm not going to let the wait continue on other things which I just plan and never do.... Yeah these were the thoughts running thru my mind on last Friday,....after burning my ass-off in the same chair sitting in front of the PC and working like a typical s/w professional....
I'm a Libran...And yes....I'm Lazy by nature and find hard to reach some decisions pertaining to me fast....The above things only prove this :(
I remember a few Fwded mails containing the characteristics of a person based on the zodiac signs.... And some of my characteristic definately matches with the typical zodiac signs of mine....The item which is always on a planing list but never executed were

1> Working out in Gym:-
Ah !!!!!!!!! God knows from when I am planning to do this ...probably from the 3rd year of engineering .....So its nearly 6 years of planning and execution of just a month or two when I was in Sasken, until I moved to the client side, Motorola. Motorola has a better gym than sasken but still I just go there once in a while to measure my weight with Sandeep, my closest work mate... Seems this item will stay as pending and will be probably the last one I will close.

2> Learn Dancing:-
Well, this desire comes up only when I see someone dancing too well and feeling what the fuck I am doing just standing and watching !!!!!!!! Not sure if its the right age to start this ...but its a hidden desire inside ...probably one day I will do ...Atleast before going to the GYM ;)

3> Learn Driving:-
Not sure, what blocked me from doing this. Probably bcoz of my lazy nature ....But yes, this is one of the workitem I am planning as of now to execute soon ... Hope its not the same old planning way ;)

4> Music:-
Well, my voice was never pleasant enuf to be that one of a singer...so its just the ears who have been doing his work... But this aspiration added a new dimension of playing instruments after I watched "Rock On !!!" ...Obviously, Guitar is on the List first of All the instruments .... I have enquired also, and there is a good teacher nearby my flat where I can enrol... next Saturday will definitely execute :)

5> Swimming:-
Oh no !!! One more ... so many items ...pending list is big ...when will I execute all of them :(

Waiting to be an MBA continues....

PGSEM - The Wait Continues

Its has been a 3 longs years since I am trying to get into the elite IIMs, but seems like my wait is going to continue for another year. :(

This year I just gave CAT and PGSEM. And fortunately got an interview call for PGSEM on March 9, 2009. On March 9, I got a mail from PGSEM admissions that I have been shortlisted and should be available for an alumni interview, to be held at the IIMB campus premises during 15th March, 2009. I was pleased to read these mails and there started all the anxieties for the alumni interview. I went for the alumni interview to IIM-B, my first visit to IIM-B, praying to the Lord that it should give me with the opportunity to be a regular visitor here as a student. IIMB's campus is sorrounded by trees and once u enter u will feel like that u are not in bangalore, the atmosphere is so quite and silent, a perfect one to study without any outside interference. My Alumni interview was about to begin as we were waiting for the Alumni's to arrive. Then suddenly someone asked for my name and said me to come along with him in the interview room. There were two panelists, one was from Wipro (13 years + exp) and another one was from Tech Mahindra. Both were IIM-B PGSEM passouts. Alumni interview was very interactive and good one and I was preety sure that they were happy with the interaction we had.

On March 24, I got a mail regarding my
faculty interview schedule on Friday, April 3, 2009. So I reached there on the designated day. After doing the pre-interview formalities I was called for the interview. Again two faculty members were there. They asked a range of questions like
-- Asked about my company, Are you happy with it? Will you move to other company given an option? ....
-- About Singur Issue and what solutions I can give...what should I have done being in CMs chair at that time?
-- About my marriage plans in case I join course? and how do i plan to cope up with it.
-- And lot more.

The interview lasted for 30 mins. One of the faculty seemed happy in his expression after my interview and other one was okie-dokie. After the interview I tried to catch some present IIMB PGSEM students and got some more information.

But it seems that I was not good enough, I got a mail saying "I write to inform you that you have been waitlisted for IIM Bangalore’s Post Graduate Program in Software Enterprise Management, for the session commencing in June 2009. Your position on the waitlist is currently at No. 7. In the event that we can admit you into the PGSEM program, we will get in touch with you and convey our offer." on April 9. I was greatly disappointed after that. But got info from PGSEM groups that last year upto 10 waiting List were cleared... Now the hope was alive....

But Hope was for a short duration... I got a mail on saying May 5 saying "We regret to inform you that we could not accommodate you for PGSEM 2009 batch since we have limited seats and no cancellations. " Seemed like none cancelled. :(
Later from groups I got info that like no waiting list candidates were offered seats...few defered candidates prefered to join this year probably 4-5 in number....

The crux of the story is my waiting List continues ......:(

The Magic Of Dabbawalas Unfolded by Dr. Pawan Agarwal on 25th Sep 2008

On 25th Sep 2008, Motorola India Planned a session by Dr. Pawan Agarwal, who shared his insight on Dabbawalas of Mumbai. Lot of Town halls have taken place in our work place, but I never saw the number of people attend it in that large number as it was that day. Only townhalls of a CEO or CTO of our company can match that gathering. The session was very informative and was well communicated by DR. Agarwal.

dabbawallah is a person in the Indian city of Mumbai who is employed in a unique service industry whose primary business is collecting the freshly cooked food in lunch boxes from the residences of the office workers (mostly in the suburbs), delivering it to their respective workplaces and returning back the empty boxes by using various modes of transport. Most of the Dabbawallah's are illiterate, but still the perfection with which they do their work with nearly zero error without using any of the technology is simply awesome. They even got the Six- sigma certification without even applying.... That's really cool.

Examples of few incidents revolving them during the session was humorous and realistic at the same time it showed that sincerity, honesty and simplicity with which dabbawallah's do their work. Simply Hats Off to them..... :)

Wanted IMT-GaziaBad getting Nagpur..................

It seems one section (English screwed me like hell).....
None of the desired B-School is giving me call....

Yesterday recived Call for IMT-Nagpur, I desired for Ghaziabad, now I am taking a call not to attend the interview. First of all the interview is in kolkata , secon even if I get selected chances are very less that I will take admissions there ....

So Now what are the desired options I have : --

Only one PGSEM from IIM-B. Instead of running after CAT year after year

CAT 2006 -> 89.xx %ile
CAT 2007 -> 92.xx%ile

its better to get into best of the B-School. which you can get .

Though PGSEM might not have that great brand in the public as PGP from IIM-B might have....But the good part is that ...
  • Its faculty will be from IIM-B ....
One can't expect better faculty in India

  • I can work parallely....and earn ..while keeping in touch with the industry...
All those academic things can be applied in practice ...and also you will get experience....

so after 3 years (assuming I get cleared in CAT next year)

PGP (MBA) + 3.5 yrs Exp
or
PGSEM (MBA) + 5.5yrs Exp

Second one sounds better as first one is not 100% sure.....

So my traget is PGSEM ..test is on 3rd march ' 2008

Don't empty your spam mails without having a look

Most of us generally don't check the spam mails folder frequently..Even I don't .. just a few days ago I read one of the forwarded mails from one of my friend regarding -- a possibility of important mail coming as spam mail....

To my Surprise, after logging into my yahoo account I just thought to check my Spam Mail folder ....
I found that it contained mails from IIM - Bangalore .... That mail had my admit card for the PGSEM test.... Oh my God!!!!!!!!!! Had I deleted all those mails in spam folder or it might have got deleted by itself after 3o days ...I might have missed the admit card for PGSME test from IIM-B....

-- So, guys make a habit to check your bulk folder atleast once in a few days lest you miss out on some important mail..

Tour of Hyderabad + ICFAI (1/2/08 - 5th Feb 2008)

First Trip of Hyderabad

Though I had a prescient knowledge that Hyderabad trip will not be fruitful regarding the objective to get admission to a Good Business School, I wilfully went ahead with the plan. I started on Friday i.e. 1st Feb ' 2008 from Yashvantpur R.S. for Secundrabad by Sampark Kranti Express. As usual in Bangalore, Auto wallahs don't agree for the fair price, they always want double or 1.5 times or fair plus 20 or 30 rupees. Was able to catch one who got ready for Rs 200 bugs. though the distance is nearly 23-24 kms. That means Fair price is 120 and he was ready only for 75% extra. Anyways after reaching YPR , told "BaBye" to Bangalore for few days.

Reached Secundrabad, again the same thing common in most of the Railway stations in India -- Auto Wallahs Making one fool regarding price even if the person knows that he is making you fool. But what can one passenger unknown with the city do....rather than doing some bargaining..
Somehow got in one of the autos and booked one of the lodge for a temporary stay.

My interview was on Tuesday still I reached there on Sat morning so that I can meet up my college buddies(Avijit, Sudhir, Sandipan, Sankar, etc) who are in Hyderabad. Few juniors are also there like shruti, Jaya. After entering the lodge called mishra and sandipan to meet up....Sandy was busy while mishra was available. We meet up at Punjagutta (Equivalent to MG of Bangalore) and there I got a great Shock. Mishra, this guy was very thin and I suddenly see a person coming towards me with red specs, big Bisceps and l----o-----n-----g hairs. At first I was not even able to believe that he is mishra though I was able to recognise. From Punjagutta we went to Begumpet the place where Avijit stays alongwith Sudhir Pathak , Asutosh and Ashwini. And the secons shock was waiting for me , Mr. Sudhir Pathak , You wont believe it this guy has made a good physique like the one of Partho and he now cherish Grill Chicken though earlier he used to be a Sudh-Saka-Hari.

After having a big chit chat, I went along with Avijit for Charminar. Though Charminar looked good, but somehow I didn't find it that impressive. From the charminar area bought some Hyderbadi Pearls which are famous in India. Before that we had a lunch in Paradise, a famous restaurant in HYD, and as expected we had speciality of Hyderabad i.e. Hyderabadi Biryani and a grill chicken.

While retruning saw the Sagar with a Statue of Buddha on an island in the Sagar. That was really a beautiful view. This Lake is sorrounded by a road called necklace road. And also had a restaurant beside it called "Eat Street" which is quite good to come after evening. Nice atmosphere prevails in the restaurant.

When we came back, it was already 9 ....It was party time as Sudhir was medically cleared for a onsite trip to UK. Earlier he was blocked on Suspicion of TB, which actually came as negative in report. So they called up many friends of there...and we all were boozing out, cracking jokes, having chicken , dancing....overall a great fun..... At 1 am, I went to sleep... After that some them went for ride and the tragedy was waiting to happend, mishra fell down from bike along with Sumanta, my college friend. And both of them sustained minor injuries. Sunday just went sleeping , watching moviews, etc.

Now Monday arrived, and I had interview ,...I just prepared the content in span of 2 hrs and choosed the topic as SEZ,,,,...and again started fun.....as if I had no interview tomorrow.

Tuesday I had to wake up at 5 am -- the thing which I hate most --- waking up early....
Went to IBS admission office, got into a Bus and then reached IBS campus....which was quite far from the main city....Got registered myself and found that my Presentation was at 12:45 .....that means being idle for 3-4 hrs doing nothing .....thats quite sick......they could have alloted some timing earlier by themselves..instead of calling such a huge number of people at once... In those idle hours I already had formed a group with few people and was having fun.practiced for the presnetation. Now, when the time came for presentation I gave it and I gave it fairly good contrary to my expectation. interview was very very brief...though good...but only God knows know what they can make out in an interview of less than 5 minutes....

Now the result was expected at 7:30 - 8.... I cant wait till that as I had train from Kachiguda at 9:15 pm...so left from there early at 6 pm.......and din't collected the result.............

and here my trip to hyderabad ended...... though i missed to see ramoji City and Golconda fort ...am planning to see it next time I go there....

This wednesday morning I got my result through mail......The college which was alloctade was ICFAI MUMBAI..... in which I am not going to take admission.... Even ICFAI HYD was doubtful...but it was thinkable..... So now doors for ICFAI is also closed.....

So only two options left from here
1> WOrk + PGSEM
2> Work + CAT next year .............

MBA dreams Seems to be getting shattered.....

Year 2008 seems to be a disappointing year w.r.t. MBA aspirations of mine.....

All the results misses the cut-off some-how :(

CAT - 93.18%ile - The Gateway for the most aspired B-school in India - with such a low percentile the dream of being in the esteemed B-school (IIM -> A, B, C, K, L, I , and .....Shillong) made a nose dive.... With them also went the chances of SPJain, NITIE, etc.....

XAT - 88.**%ile - Better not to discuss not worth telling even.

NMAT - Score 79 -
Cl
eared Sectional cutoffs but plunged in the total cut off which was 85.

SNAP - Score 82 -
SCMHRD - Didn't get call from it...God only Knows what are they looking in the profiles...I was really pissed off...........

SIBM - Cleared All Sectional cutoffs....Didn't clear the total cutoff 85....

JMET Rank 2416 - In JMET "Doors for MBA through IITs" got preety low rank and I wont get IIT Mumbai or Kharagpur for which I aspired , so didn't apply for others....

IBSAT - Got call for Interview.....Which I guess 50% of the applicant gets.... I am not sure even if I am going to join id i get ICFAI - Hyderabad / Mumbai.......

Now results to be announced :-

FMS :- Preety low chances....helll less no. of seats with huge number of applicants ...beats even IIM's in seat to applicant ratio...

Seems MBA @ good college -> less chance....

I am trying for PGSEM also ..lets see....what happens.........

Hopefully will get some good new @ year 2008................
